Solar string lights normally have mini solar panels attached that charges batteries which will power the lights at night. Solar string lights are normally a type of lantern string light with each lantern having a mini solar panel on it.

Patio string lights can be any of the different forms of string lights. The choice would be entirely up to your own preferences.
