Comparing a Gas and Electric Lawn Mower

We’re now seeing a lot of electric lawn mower brands nowadays.  But still, gas lawn mowers are not going down without a fight.  In fact, it’s still standing because a lot of people still prefer them.  So if you’re a first-time buyer of a lawn mower, it’s easy to be confused.  What should you get?  Should you join the trend and buy an electric one or should you go for tradition and buy a gas-powered lawn mower?

A lot of people would tell you to get an electric lawn mower.  But it will be your decision and you should make that decision based on your needs and preferences.  To make a wise choice, here are the differences between them:

Power source

It’s pretty obvious where they get their power.  For a gas-powered machine, you have to put gas in it.  For an electric lawn mower, you have to charge its batteries.  There’s also an option for a corded one so you don’t have to charge it anymore.

Convenience

We’ve seen our neighbors have troubles with their gas-powered lawn mower.  Starting one can be quite a headache especially if you have an old machine.  Electricity wins this battle because all you need to do is charge or plug it and you’re good to go.

Power

Gas produces more power that electricity.  Although an electric lawn mower has more than enough power to mow your lawns consistently.

Coverage

A gas lawn mower can easily cover large areas as long as it has gas in it.  If you’re using a corded lawn mower, you’re obviously limited to the length of the cord.  If you have a cordless lawn mower powered by a rechargeable battery, a single charge can normally cover 1/3 acre.  But there are some models that allow you to use additional batteries for additional coverage.

Pollution

A gas lawn mower is less environment-friendly because it produces fumes.

All you have to do now is compare them with your needs in mind.  If you’re after power that can cover large areas with ease, a gas lawn mower is for you.  But if you’re after convenience and you’re concerned for the environment, you should get an electric lawn mower.
