How to Flea Bomb Your Home

Sometimes drastic steps have to be taken when your home is invaded by fleas.  A flea bomb is probably your best choice to fight an infestation when you cant afford a professional. These weapons of mass flea destruction can be purchased from various hardware stores or pet stores in your area.  A quick phone call to any of these establishments will supply you with the information on where to buy flea bombs.

They may also be called a flea fogger because the chemical is usually in a spray can. At any rate you will have to plan the attack carefully and follow this guide for successful results.Measure the square footage of each room in your home and add up the total so you know how many flea bombs you will need. Each can has a recommended area that it will treat, so buy enough to do the job properly.

You need to prepare your house by sealing off any food or dishes from the insecticide chemicals with tape. Tape up cupboards and cabinets, and your refrigerator. You should also remove food and dishes completely from your house.  Furniture needs to be separated, taken off any carpets, and put on bare floors.

Remove any pet accessories from the house such as litter boxes, bird cages, aquariums, dog bowls and any other items of this nature. If you have gas appliances with pilot lights you will need to extinguish them or you could blow up your house. Also kill the power for your house at the main shut off so nothing can create an electrical spark. Read the instructions on the flea bomb carefully for any other necessary requirements.

Set them off and leave the house with all your pets for the recommended time as per the instructions. It is wise if you have a dog or cat to put flea powder on it while youre out and before you come back to get rid of any fleas still on them. When you come back open all the windows you can for an hour and leave again. After an hour turn on the power and use fans to air out the house more, and leave for another hour.

Once the house is aired out you need to vacuum every room carpet, couch and all other surfaces of material you cant throw in the washing machine. Wash all linens, curtains and clothes that you didnt remove. Wash all walls and surfaces such as the kitchen table that you may come into contact with during your normal occupation of the home. Use rubber gloves while youre washing and removing the tape you put on cabinets and the fridge. Wash your dishes as an extra precaution.  Change the air filter in your furnace in case it was exposed to chemicals.

Hopefully you will never have to fight a flea infestation but at least now you know whats involved when you have to declare war!
